Benjamin Widlanski is a Miami first-chair trial lawyer, complex commercial litigator, advocate, and counsel who represents individuals, businesses, and institutional clients in high-stakes litigation in Florida and courts across the country. A partner at Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, Ben focuses on complex commercial litigation, class actions, multidistrict litigation, antitrust matters, fraud cases, and other substantial disputes.
Ben represents clients, both plaintiffs and defendants, in complex cases involving Ponzi schemes and large-scale fraud, antitrust violations, consumer fraud, deceptive trade practices, product mislabeling, data security incidents, professional malpractice, shareholder and business disputes, probate litigation, and internal investigations. His practice is particularly well suited for clients seeking experienced counsel in large, fact-intensive cases with significant financial exposure.
Ben has been appointed to leadership positions in major nationwide litigation. Currently, he serves as the court-appointed co-lead counsel for the self-funded payer track in In Re: Insulin Pricing Litigation (MDL 3080, D.N.J.). He also serves on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the RealPage Rental Software Antitrust Litigation (MDL 3071, M.D. Tenn.). These appointments, among others, reflect his experience handling complex plaintiff-side matters at the national level.
Before entering private practice, Ben served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida, where he prosecuted federal cases involving human trafficking, identity theft, unemployment insurance fraud, cybercrime, and violent offenses. That public-service background gives him substantial courtroom experience and a practical understanding of how to investigate, build, and try difficult cases.
Earlier in his career, Ben served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He received multiple military honors, including a Bronze Star.
Ben earned his B.A. from Columbia University and his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. Chambers USA ranks him Band 1 in Florida for Litigation: Mainly Plaintiffs, citing his experience with large fraud claims, product liability matters, and multidistrict litigation. He was inducted as a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers in 2025. Ben also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law, where he teaches Litigation Skills. He is admitted to practice in Florida and New York.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
The law exists to protect people and redress wrongs. I have always loved using the law to stand up for victims – from when I was a prosecutor, fighting for victims of violent crimes or human trafficking, through today, fighting for the victims of fraud, corporate malfeasance, and commercial greed – it feels good to speak out against injustice and on behalf of the ill-used and forgotten. I take great pride in representing my clients to the best of my ability, and I’ve never had to compromise my morals to do so.
