Jorge L. Piedra is the Managing Partner of Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton and a Miami-based trial lawyer who focuses on complex, high-stakes “bet-the-company” litigation. He represents businesses, entrepreneurs, professionals, developers, and owners in critical disputes where the outcome directly impacts the survival, control, or financial future of the enterprise.
With nearly three decades of courtroom experience, Jorge has served as lead trial counsel in more than 75 jury and non-jury trials and numerous arbitrations throughout Florida. He has also argued more than 80 cases before Florida’s appellate courts. His practice is concentrated in complex commercial litigation, construction disputes, and real estate litigation in both state and federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida in Miami.
Bet-the-Company Commercial Litigation
Jorge is routinely entrusted with cases involving:
- Shareholder and partnership disputes
- High-value construction litigation
- Real estate development conflicts
- Business torts and fiduciary duty claims
- Contract disputes involving significant enterprise risk
Most of his matters involve business-critical litigation — cases where a company’s assets, leadership, or long-term viability are at stake.
Unique Industry Focus: Mobile Home Park Redevelopment
In addition to his broader commercial trial practice, Jorge has developed a recognized niche representing developers in complex mobile home park relocation and eviction matters. He has handled more than five mobile home park relocations and recently served as lead counsel in the eviction of Li’l Abner Mobile Home Park, the largest mobile home park in South Florida — a matter involving substantial legal, political, and public scrutiny.
Leadership in the Florida Legal Community
Jorge serves on the Florida Bar Board of Governors representing the 11th Judicial Circuit (Miami-Dade County). Elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2021 and 2023, he plays a central role in shaping policy governing the practice of law in Florida.
He has chaired the Disciplinary Review Committee (2024) and has served on the Judicial Nominating Commission Screening Committee, Judicial Qualifications Commission Screening Committee, Technology Committee, and COVID-19 Recovery Task Force. In 2021, he received the Florida Bar President’s Award for his service.
His leadership roles reflect the trust placed in him by fellow lawyers and judges across the state.
