John Kozyak is one of only two lawyers in the country to be a Fellow in both the American College of Bankruptcy and the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has been recognized as a “Bet The Company” litigator and has played a major role in bankruptcy cases across the nation, representing business owners, lenders, creditors’ committees, trustees and major creditors.  He has also been appointed a trustee and receiver in federal and state courts. He has along list of successes, as lead and co-counselor and has particular expertise in real estate and fraud-related matters. John is now eager to help younger lawyers in the firm with strategizing, improving their skills, and developing relationships. He is anxious to help with any aspect of a case and has been an invaluable resource.

For more than 40 years, John has been a leader in mentoring law students and young lawyers and especially those in underserved communities. He has received the highest awards from the ABA, the Florida Bar, the Florida Supreme Court and many voluntary bar associations for his mentoring initiative. In 2025, he was selected to receive the American College of Bankruptcy’s DEI Award. John co-founded the Kozyak Minority Mentoring Foundation and facilitated thousands of matches with judges and lawyers. He funds and raises money to provide at least ten summer fellowships for students to intern with judges, agencies, and nonprofits, which are unable to pay the students. In 2026 he was recognized as a “Living Legend” by the Miami Foundation.

After both of his parents were diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, John chose to be “Of Counsel”, so he could devote more time in the nonprofit world. He was Chair of the National Parkinson Foundation and merged it with two other organizations to form the Parkinson’s Foundation. It is an international leader in the providing the best care and helping families deal with Parkinson’s, while a cure is sought.  John is now on the Emeritus Board and Chair of its Wine Committee. The Parkinson’s Foundation named its Living Legacy Award after John and presented him with the inaugural award in March, 2026.  John is also on the board of the Fresco Parkinson Institute Italia in Florence, Italy.

John is a wine collector and loves sharing wine to promote awareness and build relationships with Parkinson’s, mentoring and other causes. His passion is building relationships and connecting people.
