Biography
Harley S. Tropin is a founding partner of Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton and heads the litigation department. Mr. Tropin concentrates his practice on high-risk business litigation and national class actions. His success in prosecuting complex litigation has earned national recognition from lawyers, judges, and clients. Mr. Tropin’s expertise in commercial litigation has been recognized by Best Lawyers In America since 1989. He is one of only 31 Florida lawyers named to the publication’s top-tier litigation category, “Bet-The-Company Litigators.” Chambers USA has placed Mr. Tropin, along with seven other Florida lawyers in its top “Tier 1” rankings of America’s Leading Business Lawyers in commercial litigation. He is also listed in Florida Trend’s “Legal Elite,” Who’s Who, and Florida Superlawyers as a top attorney in business litigation. In July 2009, he was one of fifty Florida Lawyers named to the Florida Legal Elite Hall of Fame. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
While the majority of his practice now focuses on representing plaintiffs, Mr. Tropin regularly represents defendants in their most serious and challenging commercial cases.
He lectures on a variety of issues in commercial litigation, including the management of complex litigation, the presentation of damages in commercial litigation, trial advocacy techniques, and fraud prosecution. He has chaired the NITA/Federal Court Program on trial advocacy, and regularly chairs an annual seminar, “Damages in Commercial Litigation”. He has also participated in seminars and programs concerning the appointment process of judges.
Mr. Tropin authored Florida Business Torts, a Lexis Nexis book published in March 2006, and the injunction chapter for Florida Civil Practice Before Trial, a standard Florida litigation text. He teaches trial advocacy at the University of Miami School of Law. He is also active in the University of Miami School of Law, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, and Temple Beth Am.
