Biography
Daniel Benavides is an attorney in Kozyak Tropin and Throckmorton’s bankruptcy practice. He handles corporate reorganizations, liquidations, insolvency-related litigation, workouts and financially distressed transactions representing debtors, creditors, committees, trustees and related parties, including principals, guarantors and Section 363 asset purchasers.
Representative matters include: counsel for a retail center as Chapter 11 debtor; counsel for the largest equity holder in a major hospitality and development bankruptcy; counsel for investors in an alleged ponzi scheme; counsel for potential 363 asset purchaser in a major real estate bankruptcy; counsel for individual and corporate Chapter 7 debtors and creditors.
Prior to joining Kozyak Tropin and Throckmorton, Mr. Benavides was an associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, LLP, in New York. At Fried Frank, Mr. Benavides advised real estate developers, investors, REITs, and lenders with respect to all aspects of commercial real estate transactions. Mr. Benavides was also a summer associate in the New York and Los Angeles offices of Latham and Watkins and a summer associate at Dewey Ballantine in New York.
Mr. Benavides earned his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School in June 2007, where he was Vice President of Student Government, Founder and President of the Harvard Real Estate Consortium, and Editor of the Latino Law Review. He received a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Criminology from the University of Florida.
